Our Vision

Christ is the center of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, we are his disciples. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we minister his unconditional love to each other and the world, so that all may know that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Church History

St. Paul Lutheran Church was built in 1966-67 and became a reality through many hours of volunteer labor. Church construction totalled $113,967. Furniture and fixtures, totallng $5,710, were donated by church members and friends.

St. Paul Parish was established in 1912 when St. Paul combined with two sister churches. The churches of Rose Grove, formerly Tabitha, and Lanstad were previously known as the Williams Lutheran Parish.

In 1958, Landstad Lutheran Church was closed and is no longer standing. Rose Grove Lutheran Church closed in 1975 but the building still stands in Liberty Township.

Pastor Jeff Tjelta

Jeff Tjelta has been serving churches in central Iowa for over 25 years. Jeff and his wife Lisa live in Story City and have one adult child, Amanda (Eric) Williams and two grandchildren, Aden and Avery from Garner, Iowa. After graduating from Roland-Story high school in 1974, he furthered his education with many training classes in California, Minnesota, Missouri, and Florida. He took part in the WOW Evangelism Training, PDYM and Rebound Training for Youth Ministry and Marriage. Mission trips include taking the youth to the Rosebud Indian Reservation for 10 years and serving at the Door of Faith Missions in Des Moines to help spread the gospel.

Jeff’s leadership roles include teaching Sunday school, Director of Youth Group Ministries and serves as a connection group leader for 7 years and lay preaching. Jeff has been working full time at Iowa State University since 1979, and has recently accepted the position of Teaching Pastor at St. Paul’s in Williams, Iowa.

In Jeff’s leisure time he likes to spend time with family and friends, watch dirt track Stock car races and movies, and cheer on the Pittsburg Pirates and Steelers.
